Cookson proposes higher teacher salaries, more funding to poorest schools

Rep. Steve Cookson, R-Poplar Bluff, spoke before a House committee Monday afternoon in the Missouri Capitol, presenting two bills: One that would raise the state’s minimum salary for teachers, another that would increase funding for some of the state’s poorest school districts.

Opponents were concerned about specifics of the bills’ language, as well as possible unintended consequences of their implementation.
